Always On My Mind Podcast: Get Really Good at the Basics

I took a week off.

My nephew came into the world four weeks ahead of schedule, life lifed, I went from one coaching job to another and I needed a minute to catch up on everything else that kept moving.

But as I was recalibrating I kept coming back to this thought about weight loss and one of the things that used to irritate me the most when I was going through it.

You cannot think yourself out of something. You have to practice your way out.

So here we go

When someone told me to just focus on the basics I was offended.

Not a little. Actually offended.

Because I was already doing the basics … or so I thought.

And if it really was just about the basics then either the basics were wrong or something was wrong with me. And I could not deal with the second option.

Diet culture made that easy to believe. And I kept going in circles until I hit a wall that said this is just my life and I was never meant to be a smaller person.

That is never the case.

This episode is about why the basics are actually the answer, why they feel scary to trust, and what happens when you finally practice them long enough to build real competence and real confidence in your own capability.

Also there is no wagon!!! Sorry. Pet peev. It’s Oregon Trail’s fault.

Come listen ♥️

With love, Coach Nik
