Always On My Mind Podcast: Side B of the 45

I turned 45 last week.

As I was sitting here… I started to think about something that I’ve always wanted to do that I’m not doing. And I kept coming back to a podcast. I so enjoyed the two different podcasts that I had done with friends. I enjoyed the podcasts that I’ve been invited on. And I definitely feel a pull for it so why not?

I’ve done a creative challenge for myself before. 2023 was the start of this blog….so that was for my 42nd birthday? I keep saying 43rd but I think I’ve got my years wrong… it kinda happens after a certain age… But I did the artist Way challenge and at the end of it the morning pages led me to writing. Writing is what was missing in my life. It was my expression. I used to carry around this little mini composition book when I was a toddler. I’ve always had journals. I’ve always written. Poetry. Short stories. Always written. And it was what was lacking. I was only writing for work. I was only writing for necessity in a planner. I was only writing for school. I was missing something so tethered to me.

so in the spirit of this same creative challenge, I want to challenge myself again with this.

And as I was thinking this through and praying on it… I thought about the song hey Mr. DJ… and a jukebox… and record players… and then I thought about the singles… the 45s. It felt perfect.

The kids and I have been buying albums to play music in the house instead of streaming it. It’s been a pretty cool moment here. But yeah… 45s.

And if you know anything about records, a 45 is a single.

One song.

Side A and Side B.

As the idea developed… I thought about how many times I’ve replayed the same record. Literally and figuratively.

I have gone through similar situations in life to learn lessons over and over again. Move through habits and challenges over and over again. Tried to heal some of the chatter and overthinking over and over again. And it’s just like a 45 that isn’t getting flipped over to the other side.

So that’s what I’m gonna do… Retell a story. Flip it over. Share something I’ve learned. Allow us to enjoy the other side of it for a change.

So that is what Always On My Mind the podcast is going to be.

A place to flip the record over.

A weekly 45 with some stories, some depth, some side questing because well… diagnosed with ADHD at 42 and a whole lot of honesty about the body you are living in, the mind you are working through, and the season you are currently standing in… even if that season feels like a freefall.

No highlight reels. No wrapped mess in a pretty bow.

Every Friday I am dropping a new episode… Or at least try to. Full-time work and a single mama four might stand in the way of that… or I might be lost picking up my ADHD breadcrumbs throughout the house.

But we’re gonna shoot for…fifteen to twenty minutes. Fifty two weeks.

Episode 1 is live right now. It is called Side B of the 45 and it is exactly what this post is… me, figuring out out loud why this felt like the next right thing.

Come listen. And if you know someone who has been feeling a little too much for the room they are standing in lately… send it their way.

I have been playing this record for 45 years. It is finally time to turn it up.
